What the heck is Kawakawa Balm?
Kawakawa is a native New Zealand bush whose leaves have famously anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties. Treebrush Apothecary balms infuse these leaves into a skin-nourishing carrier oil, then blend with natural butters and waxes, a few choice essential oils, and packaged in convenient, reusable tins/jars. It can soothe and help to heal all manner of angry skin – bug bites, dry or cracked skin, chapped lips, cuts, scrapes, abrasions, eczema & psoriasis, razor burn, overwashed hands, and so much more. The limit is your imagination!
This insane-smelling kawakawa balm owes its delicious scent to kawakawa-infused extra virgin coconut oil and deeply fragrant cocoa butter. Despite being extra creamy thanks to these ingredients, it will glide even further than the rest of the Treebrush Apothecary range of kawakawa balm – a little goes a long way!
Adding to the fragrance are floral notes from candelilla wax and sunflower wax: this balm is vegan!
To replace the usual beeswax, this formulation also features babassu oil (a wonderful emollient), safflower oil (beautifully lightweight and moisturising), and meadowfoam oil (also lightweight, forms a moisture barrier on the skin). A healthy splash of mānuka essential oil is the cherry on top of this slick, healing tin of awesome.
Why Wayfarer instead of Thuck, Thun, No Regerts or Mellow? This balm is perfect for long-distance application, with its component oils melting readily at skin temperature and gliding easily before absorbing into the skin completely. If you’re treating a large area, rehabilitating angry lips or your skin just adores coconut oil, this is the balm for you. It’s also ideal for anyone desiring a balm with no beeswax; this product is vegan-friendly.
Note: some skin types absolutely thrive on coconut oil. Some find it can be a little drying. If you’re not sure how yours responds to coconut oil, consider trialing a Wayfarer Mini!
How big is this container?
This is the jar or tin you get when you’ve got a favourite in the range, or want some mileage! If you’ve got quite a few places you like to load kawakawa balm onto, or you’re sharing, 30mL will last you a wee while. Excellent for your bag or hiking pack, on the go, or on your desk.
To use: take a small amount of balm and gently massage into the affected area until it absorbs. If the balm is cold, you may find it easier to run your fingernail across it backwards. It can also be used as a lip balm – a little goes a long way. Because this balm contains no beeswax, it may be super hard in cold weather and very soft in the heat; running a fingernail backwards over it in the cold makes it easier to use. Open the lid on a level surface when it’s very warm. It will reset just fine when cooled back down!
