MUNTED: Thuck “Mini” 10mL

$5.00 $2.50

You win some, you lose some. In this case, this batch of Thuck “Mini” balms decided they wanted to be lumpy!

It’s the same old Thuck, just with extra lumps. This is due to rushing the process and not stirring and cooling the batch correctly; the kokum butter, being natural and with minimal refinement, is prone to setting at a different rate to the oils and ‘beads’ up, resulting in a grainy/mealy texture in the balm a week or so after initially setting. It performs just as well as the smooth, buttery Thuck, and the beads melt on contact with skin, it just feels a bit gritty in the jar!

Why MUNTED: feels weird to the touch. Melts on the skin just fine. Might need patience if used as a lip balm, but on bigger, warmer body parts, there’ll be no issue!

What’s Munted?

Either a batch hasn’t gone to plan, the product is shipped in recycled or damaged packaging, or for some other reason it wouldn’t be sane to charge full price.

Why’s this one Munted?

This batch of Thuck refuses to be smooth! It’s already been re-melted and re-poured once, it is what it is…these balms still perform the same, they just feel grainy due to the formation of kokum butter beads. As kokum butter has a low melting point, these melt into the skin rapidly.

What the heck is Kawakawa Balm?

Kawakawa is a native New Zealand bush whose leaves have famously anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties. Treebrush Apothecary balms infuse these leaves into a skin-nourishing carrier oil, then blend with natural butters and waxes, a few choice essential oils, and packaged in convenient, reusable tins/jars. It can soothe and help to heal all manner of angry skin – bug bites, dry or cracked skin, chapped lips, cuts, scrapes, abrasions, eczema & psoriasis, razor burn, overwashed hands, and so much more. The limit is your imagination!

Why Thuck?

Thuck is a rich, creamy kawakawa balm that piles on thick (hence the name) but absorbs rapidly. Kawakawa leaves are steeped in deeply nourishing and soothing hemp seed oil, which is where its delightfully green colour comes from. The stiff, creamy consistency comes from kokum butter, renowned as a powerful emmolient and rapidly melting into the skin; the whole lot is bound with beautiful New Zealand beeswax. Finally, a dash of mānuka essential oil provides extra antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory power to this delicious balm.

Thuck is great for irritated, dry or angry skin, and absorbs quickly – if your skin needs a condition upgrade, this is the balm for you. Give it a try if you have: cracked heels or elbows; eczema or itchy and irritated skin; chapped or cracked lips; dry or damaged cuticles; sore, overwashed hands; or razor burn. Kawakawa balm may also help with minor bruises and joint pain.

How big is this tin?

Aside from fear-of-commitment sized, our 10mL Minis are pocket-sized, lip balm-sized, whoops-there-you-are-sized, glovebox-sized, Santa mode-sized, take-on-an-adventure-sized! These tins seal well and take knocks…we’ve even had people put them through the wash and plop out of the dryer intact…they are battle-ready.

To use: take a small amount of balm and gently massage into the affected area until it absorbs. If the balm is cold, you may find it easier to run your fingernail across it backwards. It can also be used as a lip balm – a little goes a long way.

Ingredients: Kawakawa-infused hemp seed oil, kokum butter, beeswax, vitamin E and mānuka essential oil.
