What the heck is Kawakawa Balm?
Kawakawa is a native New Zealand bush whose leaves have famously anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties. Treebrush Apothecary balms infuse these leaves into a skin-nourishing carrier oil, then blend with natural butters and waxes, a few choice essential oils, and packaged in convenient, reusable tins/jars. It can soothe and help to heal all manner of angry skin – bug bites, dry or cracked skin, chapped lips, cuts, scrapes, abrasions, eczema & psoriasis, razor burn, overwashed hands, and so much more. The limit is your imagination!

No Regerts is Treebrush Apothecary’s most luxurious kawakawa balm; it smells like a spa in a jar! This is the balm we ‘threw the kitchen sink’ at, harnessing the power of refined hemp seed oil and infusing it with both kawakawa and horopito leaves. Kokum and mango butters, and a dash of tamanu oil, rose geranium essential oil and lavender essential oil help to soothe and nourish angry, sunburnt, irritated or inflamed skin. Mānuka essential oil provides extra antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory power to this powerhouse of a balm, with New Zealand beeswax sealing the deal. If you’ve done something to your skin that you regret…here is your CTRL+Z in a jar!

Thuck is a rich, creamy kawakawa balm that piles on thick (hence the name) but absorbs rapidly. Kawakawa leaves are steeped in deeply nourishing and soothing hemp seed oil, which is where its delightfully green colour comes from. The stiff, creamy consistency comes from kokum butter, renowned as a powerful emmolient and rapidly melting into the skin; the whole lot is bound with beautiful New Zealand beeswax. Finally, a dash of mānuka essential oil provides extra antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory power to this delicious balm.
Thuck is great for irritated, dry or angry skin, and absorbs quickly – if your skin needs a condition upgrade, this is the balm for you. Give it a try if you have: cracked heels or elbows; eczema or itchy and irritated skin; chapped or cracked lips; dry or damaged cuticles; sore, overwashed hands; or razor burn. Kawakawa balm may also help with minor bruises and joint pain.

Thun is a slick and malleable kawakawa balm that smooths on easily (hence the name) and leaves a soft barrier on the skin. Kawakawa leaves are steeped in gentle, hydrating sweet almond oil, then blended with nourishing shea butter – known for its anti-inflammatory, moisturising, healing properties – and beeswax to create a balm designed to hydrate, soothe and protect angry skin. Finally, a dash of mānuka essential oil provides extra antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory power to this delicious balm.
Thun is great for very dry or angry skin, and provides a subtle barrier. Made with sweet almond oil and shea butter, this balm was made with skin conditions like eczema in mind.
Ingredients: Kawakawa-infused sweet almond oil, shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E and mānuka essential oil.
Mellow started out as a request from someone for a balm without common allergens – primarily, anything nut-derived. This left hemp seed oil and shea butter as the main ingredients, with beeswax and mānuka essential oil – it’s the best of both Thuck and Thun. If you cannot use nut-derived products or have skin sensitivities, this balm might just be the ticket!
Mellow is an exceptionally smooth, creamy, soft balm designed to soothe angry skin. It has a mild, earthy fragrance and absorbs readily. Give it a try if you have: cracked heels or elbows; eczema or itchy and irritated skin; chapped or cracked lips; dry or damaged cuticles; sore, overwashed hands; or razor burn. Kawakawa balm may also help with minor bruises and joint pain.

A “honey balm” has always been on the cards for Treebrush Apothecary, owing to its soothing and healing powers – and the fact that it’s quite delicious. Yes, we went there, and we hope your lips do too. A barrier balm has always been on the cards as well, as a follow-up to the feedback that our classic kawakawa balms absorb so much more readily than other products on the market. Which is a good thing, mind!
This formula is a flavour and fragrance bomb, slightly heavy and sticky to the touch at first but excellent at shielding skin from the elements and allowing it to heal. It also contains our kawakawa and horopito infused hemp seed oil for a soothing, healing, anti-inflammatory kick, and a delightful mix of fragrant essential oils to complement the delicious honey and beeswax base note.
Why Buzzbox instead of Thuck, Thun, No Regerts or Mellow? While this balm is soothing and anti-inflammatory like the rest of the range, this balm contains lanolin, lecithin, honey and a higher percentage of beeswax than our other balms. As a result, it sits on the skin for longer and is ideal for protecting it in harsh environments, or as a barrier over angry and healing skin. It’s an excellent lip balm alternative, and is a little more waterproof than the rest of the range.
Ingredients: Kawakawa and horopito infused hemp seed oil, beeswax, honey, soy lecithin, cetyl alcohol, stearic acid, benzoin styrax, amyris essential oil, ginger essential oil, cedarwood essential oil, vitamin E.
